MUSIC: Kelis@HMV Forum (Russian Standard Vodka Originals)

29 November 2010

Whilst the warm-up act had admirably done their bit to fill in that awkward spot before the headline act is 'ready', the crowd of near on 2,000 people were awaiting the arrival of one person, and one person only - her holiness, the Queen of electro RnB - Kelis Jones.

Typical of a present-day artist whose talent befits the enormity of their sheer presence, Kelis strolled onto the Russian Standard Vodka stage@HMV Forum, Kentish Town at just gone 22:00.

Not one to disappoint, Kelis' first words following her entrance were suitably cryptic. The crowd lapped up every word, in anticipation of the sweat drenching experience which was awaiting them.

Kelis' outfit was almost as scant (in material) as her opening reparte. The rigours of childbirth have definitely been kind to her, she stood powerfully on stage in a sheer catsuit, knee high boots and little else to save exposing herself crowd.

And then the party began...

Hit after hit was interjected by her more underground (but equally as acclaimed) material, with the crowd never once failing to lose that 'intimate' rave mentality.

Whether by luck or sheer gravity of persona, Kelis' move into the world of electro house has been a master stroke for her career. With the help of master producers like David Guetta, she has successfully reinvented herself as an even more respected artist.

For someone who has effectively been out of the music industry for near on 4 years, Kelis signalled her return to the game with a formidable gig, which I for one would be surprised if anyone was left disappointed. They say once you have it you never lose it, and they certainly weren't lying.
